- Visit to the EKPO headquarters in Dettingen/Erms
- Exchange on hydrogen projects in Baden-Württemberg
- Minister-President Kretschmann: "With the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies GmbH is making a significant contribution to climate protection."
Dettingen/Erms (Germany), April 24, 2024 +++ The Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, visited the headquarters of EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies GmbH (EKPO) in Dettingen/Erms today. He was given a tour of the production of fuel cell stacks and components and discussed hydrogen projects in Baden-Württemberg with EKPO CEO Dr. Gernot Stellberger.
Minister President Kretschmann also informed himself about the new, high-performance fuel cell stack modules for heavy-duty applications, for the development and industrialization of which EKPO is receiving funding of up to EUR 177 million until 2027 as part of the so-called "IPCEI Hydrogen". The joint funding bodies are the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and the Ministry of the Environment of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The high-performance stacks are to be produced in Dettingen/Erms, among other locations.
"We need to turn climate protection into a business model on the global markets. With the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies GmbH is making a significant contribution to this. With IPCEI hydrogen, companies in Baden-Württemberg have the unique opportunity to develop and roll out new green technologies. IPCEI provides massive and effective support for the transformation process in the mobility sector. This also opens up great potential for new workers, particularly in plant and mechanical engineering. That is why the state is happy to provide financial support for the IPCEI with Baden-Württemberg's participation together with the federal government, including the 'NextGen HD Stack' project," said Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann in Dettingen/Erms.
EKPO CEO Dr. Gernot Stellberger added: "We were very pleased about Minister-President Kretschmann's interest in EKPO. Hydrogen is an energy source with a future - both in the production and use of hydrogen, we at EKPO can contribute to a climate-neutral economy with our technologies. Both the rapid development of a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure and competitive framework conditions for hydrogen production are of enormous importance to us. We would therefore also like to thank the Minister-President for his commitment to hydrogen technologies and the support of the state of Baden-Württemberg for our project for the fuel cell stack technology of the future."
EKPO is a full-range supplier of fuel cell stacks and components that are used in cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, trains, ships and stationary applications. The EKPO stack family sets standards in the market in terms of power efficiency with values of over 6.2 kW/l in the cell block. The design of the stacks also offers the best conditions for scaling and modularization and meets the high demands of customers in terms of compactness combined with high power density and outstanding efficiency.
